Will Suryakumar keep his place in playing XI as Shreyas will join squad for Delhi Test? | INDvsAUS

Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India middle order batter Shreyas Iyer has successfully completed his rehab at the National Cricket Academy following his back injury and has been cleared by the BCCI Medical Team. Shreyas has been asked to join the test squad in Delhi ahead of the second Test for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Iyer has been side-lined for close to a month with a back injury that ruled him out of the New Zealand ODIs recently. His last appearance for India came in the ODI series against Sri Lanka last month. Even though he was named in the Test squad for the Australia series, Shreyas didn’t recover in time to join the group for the first Test in Nagpur.

With Shreyas now declared fit, the Indian team management will have more selection headaches for the second test match in Delhi. Surya was included in the playing XI for first test in Nagpur. The Mumbaikar did not have a great test debut as he was bowled by Nathan Lyon for only 8 runs. Sky was preferred over Shubman Gill who in turn was sacrificed at the expense of vice-captain KL Rahul. Now with Shreyas also getting fit, that will potentially create more selection headaches for the Indian team.

It will be interesting with Shreyas joining the squad in Delhi, who will walk in at No 5. Suryakumar, who made his debut in Nagpur deserve another chance which will mean Shreyas has to wait for his turn to make a comeback.
