Xtra Time Web Desk: In a dramatic turn of events for Chennai Super Kings, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has returned as captain for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out due to a fractured right forearm. CSK head coach Stephen Fleming confirmed the injury and Gaikwad’s unavailability, calling it a significant blow to the team's campaign.

CSK, currently languishing at 9th in the points table with just 2 points from 5 matches, are facing heavy criticism for their underwhelming performances—especially in the batting department. They head into their sixth game of the season against Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday, April 8, with four consecutive defeats behind them.

The return of Dhoni to the leadership role has sparked hope among fans and former players alike. Speaking on Star Sports, former CSK batter Ambati Rayudu backed the move and predicted a tactical turnaround under Dhoni’s captaincy.

“Ruturaj's absence will be felt in the batting line-up, but with Dhoni back as captain, we’ll see smarter bowling changes. Expect more spin—probably 12 overs in the game—and better use of bowlers like Pathirana,” said Rayudu.

He also pointed out Ruturaj’s under-utilisation of Ravindra Jadeja. Despite consistent performances, Jadeja bowled just 13 overs across 5 games, claiming 2 wickets at an economy of 8. Notably, in CSK’s last three matches—against Rajasthan, Delhi, and Punjab—the all-rounder didn’t complete his full quota of overs.

“Now you’ll see the spinners coming to the party. The field placements will be sharper, the midwicket fielder will be in action, and Dhoni will guide the bowlers ball by ball. CSK fans will smile again—you can see it on my face too,” Rayudu concluded with optimism.

All eyes are now on Friday's clash at Eden Gardens, where CSK will look to turn the tide under Dhoni’s iconic leadership.
