I was feeling unwell before the big final: Fakhar Zaman
Internet Desk: A day before the big ICC Champions Trophy final against arch-rivals India, the new rising star of Pakistan Fakhar Zaman started to feel a bit unwell. His team was arriving at The Oval for their optional practice session. According to Zaman the hot weather was the reason for his illness.
“As I entered the ground, my body had no energy,” he told on Sunday after scoring his maiden ton. “I played three or four balls in the nets and told the coach that I have no energy, I’m going back to the dressing room. He said it was alright. Then I called our masseur and Shane our physio and told them that my body feels very bad, please do something.”
When the Pakistan team went down for dinner on Saturday, Zaman’s health deteriorated more. “I told Shane that my health was very bad, so we didn’t go for dinner as well. He was with me the whole night and treated me very well.”
“In the morning as soon as I woke up I asked if I can play the match or not. Shane gave me some tablets and I was okay.”
After getting the confirmation that he will in the all important final, he started to think about his family back home who had sent a lot of messages to him after their semi-final win over hosts England. “They were all saying you need to make us happy and it has to be tomorrow. I was very nervous. I felt for the first time that I’m playing an international match, because in the previous matches there wasn’t so much pressure against South Africa or Sri Lanka. But here I felt that this was a big match.”
