Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) successfully secured the seasoned pacer's services for a whopping Rs 10.75 crore on Monday, 25th november. The second day of the auction proved to be lucrative for several Indian pacers, though some notable names, including Shardul Thakur, Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane, Kane Williamson, and Glenn Phillips, were left unsold.

At 35, Bhuvneshwar continues to command respect with his remarkable record of 300 wickets in 287 T20 matches, maintaining an economy rate under 8. Despite his age, RCB’s investment underlines the value franchises place on his wealth of experience and ability to deliver in high-pressure situations. Other key pacer deals included Deepak Chahar, who fetched Rs 9.25 crore from Mumbai Indians despite his injury concerns, and Mukesh Kumar, retained by Delhi Capitals for Rs 8 crore via the Right to Match (RTM) card. Lucknow Super Giants also made a notable investment, acquiring Test pacer Akash Deep for Rs 8 crore. Franchises Spend Big on Star Players as IPL 2025 Auction Day 1 

The first day of the IPL 2025 auction saw franchises shell out massive sums to secure top-tier players, with a total of ₹467.95 crore spent on marquee names. Leading the charge was Lucknow Super Giants, who splurged ₹27 crore to acquire star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant. Pant’s price tag surpassed that of Shreyas Iyer, who was bought by Punjab Kings for ₹26.75 crore.

Other notable buys included Venkatesh Iyer, who fetched ₹23.75 crore from Kolkata Knight Riders, and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who was picked up by Punjab Kings for ₹18 crore. Punjab also used their Right-to-Match card to bring back paceman Arshdeep Singh for ₹18 crore. Delhi Capitals made a strong move by acquiring KL Rahul for ₹14 crore.

A total of 84 players were up for bidding from a pool of 577, with 68 players being sold and four retained through the Right-to-Match cards. The opening day, held at the Abadi Al Johar Arena, demonstrated the fierce competition among franchises to secure high-profile Indian talent as teams worked to build their ideal squads for the upcoming season.
