XtraTime Newsdesk: Hardik Pandya’s inclusion in the India A ODI squad is the biggest talking point following the BCCI’s official squad announcement today for the upcoming home series against Australia A. The entire tour, kicking off on September 22, 2026, will be hosted in Puducherry.
The bilateral series features two four-day fixtures followed by three One-Day Internationals (ODIs). The first multi-day match runs from September 22 to 25, followed by the second from September 29 to October 2. The three ODI matches are scheduled for October 6, 9, and 11.
Pandya was initially expected to make his international comeback during the T20 series against Afghanistan, but a lingering quadriceps injury pushed his timeline back. The injury has kept the star all-rounder sidelined from competitive cricket for five months. While his selection for the India A team marks a major step forward, his actual participation on the field is not yet guaranteed. He must first secure a formal fitness clearance from the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru.
The national selectors have named split captains for the tour. Devdutt Padikkal will lead the team in the multi-day matches, while Ruturaj Gaikwad takes the captaincy reins for the ODI squad.
Pandya's return via the India A route gives selectors a perfect opportunity to closely evaluate his match fitness and manage his workload before throwing him back into senior international cricket. As an elite double-threat player, his recovery remains a top priority for India's limited-overs structural plans, but his immediate future hinges entirely on the upcoming fitness assessment at the CoE.
