Xtratime Web Desk: The speculation is finally over. Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that the ongoing World Cup will be the last of his illustrious career.
Speaking to the media ahead of Portugal's clash against Spain, the legendary forward revealed that this will be his final appearance on football's biggest stage.
"Of course, this is my last World Cup. Now I just want to enjoy the game," Ronaldo said.
Ronaldo made his debut for the Portugal national team in 2003 and has represented his country for more than two decades. During his remarkable international career, he led Portugal to their first-ever UEFA Euro title and also helped the team win two UEFA Nations League trophies.
In recent months, there has been growing speculation about when the five-time Ballon d'Or winner would retire, with many critics questioning his longevity. Responding to those doubts, Ronaldo said:
"For 23 years, people have been trying to write me off. Even now, many ask why I'm still playing at 41. But they've realized their efforts have been in vain. I'm used to these questions."
The Portuguese icon admitted that he is no longer at the same level he once was but insisted he can still make an impact.
"It's true that I'm not where I used to be, but I'm still scoring goals. My focus isn't on personal records anymore—it's about helping the team reach the next round."
Ronaldo also hinted that his club career is nearing its conclusion. The veteran forward revealed that he does not plan to continue playing for much longer and expects to retire from club football within the next couple of years.
With one final World Cup campaign underway, Ronaldo now hopes to end his extraordinary international journey by helping Portugal achieve another memorable success.
