A Petition To Replay The World Cup Final Creates Furore; Forces Spain Star To React To It

XtraTime Newsdesk: The FIFA World Cup 2026 final ended with Spain defeating Argentina 1-0 to capture the trophy for the second time in their history. While Spain easily won the game, the sending-off of Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez allowed La Roja to change the tide in their favour. Disappointed Argentina fans, on the other hand, have launched an online petition calling for the final to be replayed. The petition has apparently received more than 80,000 signatures. This trend has now reached Spain's defender Pedro Porro.

Porro was asked by Sport what he thought of the internet petition calling for a replay. He said he had not read anything on the subject, dismissing it as "just things said from the outside". The Tottenham Hotspur player said that these issues do not worry him personally.

According to sources in Argentina, the team's fans think multiple decisions went against them in the final, and they want a different referee to oversee any replay. Spain won 1-0 after extra time, with Barcelona forward Ferran Torres scoring the game-winning goal.

The petition requests that FIFA investigate what occurred in the final to ensure transparency and sports justice. However, there is no precedence for a World Cup final to be repeated. Hence, fans in Argentina who are supporting this petition are bound to be disappointed by the final outcome.
