Will Rohit Sharma continue playing T20 format for India leading upto the World Cup next year?

Xtra Time Web Desk: In a significant development, Team India captain Rohit Sharma is unlikely to feature in any more T20 Internationals. According to reports, Rohit has already discussed with BCCI top brass about his future in the shorter format before the commencement of the 50-over World Cup. Rohit has not played a T20I since India’s semi-final exit in the T20 World Cup 2022.

The 36-year-old Rohit Sharma boasts an impressive T20I record, having played 148 matches, scoring 3853 runs at a strike rate of 140. He has also registered four centuries in the format. There are multiple options in the opener’s slot in T20 format with the likes of Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Yashasvi Jaiswal in the fray.

In the upcoming two-test series against South Africa, India’s pace attack is expected to be led by Jasprit Bumrah, who will be accompanied by Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj. Bumrah’s return to red-ball cricket has been under scrutiny following a lengthy break due to a lower back stress fracture, but if all goes well, he is set to spearhead the pace trio.

Looking ahead to the five-test series against England early next year, the Indian team management plans to rotate Bumrah, Shami, and Siraj during the matches. This strategic rotation aims to manage the workload of the fast bowlers and keep them fresh and injury-free throughout the series.
