Xtra Time Web Desk: World Cup-winning Australian captain Pat Cummins and his triumphant team members received a surprisingly muted welcome upon their arrival at Sydney airport on Tuesday. There were only a handful of fans present at the airport to celebrate the historic victory by Cummins and his team against India at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. Australian cricketers Pat Cummins,Josh Hazzlewood, Mitchell Marsh, and Mitchell Starc were seen carrying their own baggage as they left the airport.

In a video shared by journalist Andrew McGlashan on X, the subdued atmosphere was evident, as only a few camerapersons and photographers were there to capture the arrival of the World Cup-winning heroes. This was in stark contrast to the anticipated scenes of jubilation that might have unfolded had India emerged victorious.

Here is the video:

Australia secured their record sixth World Cup title by defeating favorites India at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The team, led by Cummins, showcased their prowess by silencing nearly 100,000 Indian fans, emerging victorious by 6 wickets. Travis Head’s remarkable innings of 137 runs and Marnus Labuschagne’s unbeaten 58 ensured Australia successfully chased down the target of 240 runs in the final.

The subdued reception in Melbourne highlights the contrasting reactions between winning and losing in the world of sports. It is noted that had Rohit Sharma lifted the World Cup trophy at home, the celebrations across all cities in India would have been wild and unforgettable.
