Shubman Gill admitted in hospital in Chennai, doubtful for Pakistan game | CWC2023

Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India’s star batter Shubman Gill is in serious doubts for the marquee clash against Pakistan on October 14 in Ahmedabad. Gill has been hospitalized on Monday evening as his platelet count has dropped a bit. Gill has been admitted in Cauvery hospital. BCCI physician, Dr. Rizwan Khan, is currently attending to Gill in Chennai.

It is just as a precautionary measure though but his availability for the Pakistan game is in question. Gill has already missed the first game against Australia in Chennai and will also not be available for Afghanistan game in Delhi on Wednesday.

On Monday, the BCCI, for the first time, addressed Gill’s condition, released a statement saying that the 24-year-old did not travel with the team to Delhi, where India will play Afghanistan on Wednesday. Shubman did not travel with the team to Delhi on Monday for the Afghanistan game.

Why there are questions over Shubman’s availability even if he recovers in time for Pakistan game?

The thing with dengue is that although the fever might subside and the platelet count may improve, the weakness takes time to leave the body. So even if Gill’s condition improves and the batter is discharged, he may join the team in Ahmedabad. However, whether he will be match-fit is another case altogether.

Shubman has been in terrific form in last one-year, amassing 1230 runs. His record at the Narendra Modi stadium is fabulous. He has scored 572 runs from 9 matches with a highest of 128 including three fifties and two centuries.
