Xtra Time Web Desk : Cricket has been one of the greatest gifts for not only the people of India but also for all the sports lovers across the world. And the most classical format of the gentlemen’s game, Test Cricket was born on this day in 1877, exactly 145 years ago.

The historic first ever Test match, which was held between England and Australia was played on Australian soli, at the Melbourne Cricket ground.

Charles Bannerman of Australia was the first ever centurion in the longest format of the game as the batter scored a massive 165 out of the team’s total of 245, which is till now a record in terms of highest percentage of runs scored by a single cricketer out of the team’s total, 67.34% to be specific.

Thus, the cricket fans would always be grateful to the date, March 15 as the birthday of the gentlemen’s game.
