Xtra Time Web Desk: Shubman Gill is fully committed to excelling as India’s domestic season and home Test fixtures approach. Recently seen honing his skills at the IS Bindra PCA Stadium in Mohali, the 24-year-old cricketer was spotted practicing in his Test gear, confidently hitting lofted shots. Gill, appointed as India’s vice-captain for both the ODI and T20I formats, will also lead Team A in the upcoming Duleep Trophy tournament starting September 5 in Bengaluru. His squad features notable players such as KL Rahul, Riyan Parag, Mayank Agarwal, Tilak Varma, and Shivam Dube.

Gill has been training diligently at his home ground in Punjab following a break for the Indian team after their white-ball tour to Sri Lanka. Under Suryakumar Yadav’s leadership, India secured a 3-0 sweep in the T20I series, though Rohit Sharma’s ODI team faced a 0-2 defeat. Gill, who served as vice-captain, exhibited an aggressive batting style in T20Is but struggled in the ODIs.

The Indian squad dispersed after the tour, with players like Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer participating in the Buchi Babu tournament for Mumbai. However, Suryakumar's injury has put his Duleep Trophy participation in doubt. Gill, who had a relatively quiet Test season last year except for a century in Ahmedabad against Australia, showed renewed form in the recent five-match Test series against England.

In 25 Test appearances, Gill has amassed 1,492 runs at an average of 35.52, including four centuries and six fifties. He aims to maintain this form in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand, leading up to the much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia.
