Paralympics 2024: PM Modi celebrates Sumit's golden throw
Xtra Time Web Desk: Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi has long been a vocal supporter of Indian athletes, but since the Paris Olympics began two months ago, he has made a special effort to personally acknowledge and engage with individual medalists and standout performers. The same happened with Sumit Antil as the Prime Minister lauded him for his remarkable gold medal victory in the javelin throw F64 event at the Paris Paralympics 2024. On Monday, September 2, Sumit secured his second consecutive Paralympic gold with an exceptional display of skill and consistency.

PM Modi took to 'X' (formerly Twitter) to congratulate Antil on his outstanding achievement. "Exceptional performance by Sumit! Congratulations to him for winning the Gold in the Men's Javelin F64 event! He has shown outstanding consistency and excellence. Best wishes for his upcoming endeavours," wrote the Prime Minister.

Sumit entered the competition as a top contender and surpassed expectations by breaking his own Paralympics record twice during his six throws. He initially set a new mark of 69.11 meters with his first attempt, only to break it again with a 70.59-meter throw. His previous record, set at the Tokyo Paralympics, was 68.55 meters.

Before the Paris Games, Sumit had expressed his goal of reaching 75 meters, aiming to further push his boundaries and eventually hit the 80-meter mark. Despite their efforts, Sumit’s performance stood out, marking yet another milestone in his illustrious career.
