IND vs PAK, Asian Champions Trophy 2024: India edges past arch rivals Pakistan 2-1 in thriller, extends unbeaten streak
Xtra Time Web Desk: In the Asian Champions Trophy, the Indian hockey team easily defeated Pakistan. Team India won the match 2-1, with both goals scored by captain Harmanpreet Singh. Notably, this was the 12th match between India and Pakistan, of which India has now won eight, while Pakistan has only won two, with two matches ending in a draw.
Right from the start of the match, there was intense competition between the two teams. Pakistan took a 1-0 lead in the 8th minute, with a goal by Ahmed Nadeem. However, within five minutes, Team India leveled the score. Captain Harmanpreet Singh scored a brilliant goal from the first penalty corner for India. This brought his international career goal tally to 202.

In the second quarter, India struck again just four minutes in. Harmanpreet Singh converted another penalty corner in the 19th minute, putting India ahead 2-1. Notably, Harmanpreet seems to particularly enjoy scoring against Pakistan. In the 21st minute, Pakistan's player Abu Bakar Mahmood suffered a knee injury and had to be stretchered off the field.

India dominated the second quarter, though Pakistan nearly equalized towards the end with a penalty corner from Ahmed Nadeem, but his effort was thwarted. At halftime, India remained ahead 2-1.

The third quarter began with Pakistan earning another penalty corner in the 39th minute, but India's goalkeeper Krishan Bahadur Pathak expertly saved it. In the 42nd minute, Pakistan's Sufiyan received a yellow card for a harsh shoulder tackle on India's Nilakanta Sharma, leaving Pakistan to play with 10 men for five minutes. No goals were scored in this quarter, keeping India in the lead at 2-1.
In the final quarter, India intensified their attacks. They earned a penalty corner in the 49th minute, but Jugraj's drag flick was blocked by Pakistan's defense. In the 50th minute, Pakistan's Rana Wahid Ashraf fouled India's Jugraj Singh and was sent off for 10 minutes. Pakistan had to finish the match with only 10 players. Neither team managed to score any more goals, and Team India secured the victory.
