Xtra Time Web Desk: On this day in 2023, Aussie star batter Glen Maxwell smashed the greatest knock ever in the history of ODI World Cup at the Wankhede stadium against Afghanistan. By hitting a 201 off 128 deliveries with several cramps he snatched the win from Afghanistan. 

Batting first, Afghanistan challenged Australia with a daunting total of 292 with Ibrahim Zadran scoring a steady 129 off 143 balls, in a thrilling World Cup 2023 clash on November 7 in Mumbai. Afghan bowlers started nicely by picking back to back wickets. At one point, Australia was 91 for 7.  Australia seemed to be nowhere in the game and then came Glen Maxwell!

Maxwell started innings carefully having 22 off 26 balls at one point but then changed his gear when it mattered the most! From being uncomfortable with his cramps to being the first player to score a double century in an ODI chase and the first Australian to reach a double hundred in the format, a phenomenal showdown it was!

Maxwell’s 202-run stand with Pat Cummins, who added a steady 12 off 68 balls, also set the record for the highest-ever eighth-wicket partnership in ODIs. Maxwell's efforts would receive a lot of praises across globe with Sachin Tendulkar mentioning it as the greatest ODI knock.
