IPL 2024: Adam Gilchrist criticizes Rishabh Pant's umpire dispute during DC vs LSG match
Xtra Time Web Desk: Former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist expressed disappointment over Rishabh Pant's prolonged argument with the on-field umpire during the IPL 2024 match between Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals. The incident unfolded during the fourth over of Lucknow's batting, where Pant engaged in an animated discussion with the umpire after Delhi lost a review on a wide-ball decision.
Gilchrist emphasized the importance of umpires maintaining control over the game and advocated for shorter and more straightforward conversations between captains and officials. He suggested that umpires should have the authority to penalize players for prolonging discussions.

“I saw another example tonight where umpires need to take better control of games, and that is in any format. They just got to do a better job at moving things forward. There was a dispute over whether Rishabh had reviewed it. Okay, there was a miscommunication over the review call. But they stood there and spoke about that for 3-4 minutes. It's a very simple conversation, I believe. No matter how much Rishabh is complaining or any other player is complaining, umpires should just say, 'it's over' and quickly move on. But if he keeps talking, he should get fined,” the Aussie said.
The confusion surrounding the incident was initially unclear to commentators, but it was later revealed that Pant was frustrated over the lack of snick meter usage to determine if there was an outside edge when the ball passed the bat of Devdutt Padikkal.

Despite the controversy, Pant showcased his prowess with the bat, scoring a brisk 41 runs off 24 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes, leading Delhi Capitals to victory by chasing down a target of 168 with 11 balls to spare. This win marked Delhi's second victory in IPL 2024.
