Xtra Time Web Desk: Australia received a huge setback ahead of Boxing Day Test against India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground starting on December 26 as star opener David Warner has still not recovered fully from the groin injury. Warner injured his groin during the second ODI at Sydney Cricket Ground and hence had to miss the entire T20I series as well as the first test match at Adelaide Oval.

In an interview to SEN Radio, Warner said, “Hopefully I can get up and about and start running at a higher tempo. I managed to get up to 14 kilometres an hour so I’ve got to work towards a max of 26 to 30 kilometres an hour by next week.”

He further added, “If I can run between wickets and move laterally and do some ground fielding by the end of next week, I should be ready to go. Fingers are crossed.”

The swashbuckling opener seems to be losing the race against time as the Boxing Day Test is just 3 days away. Warner is now in Melbourne as he and Sean Abbott has been flown into Melbourne following the COVID-19 outbreak in Sydney.

In case Warner does not make himself available, Australia will stick with Mathew Wade and Joe Burns who opened the batting for them in Adelaide. The later has struck form with his unbeaten 51 in the second innings in the first test. The duo together put 70 runs for the opening wicket, setting the platform for an easy run chase of 90 runs for victory.
