XtraTime Web Desk – The long old rivalry between Mohun Bagan (now ATK Mohun Bagan) and Bengaluru FC was once again witnessed by millions of their fans when the clubs faced for the first time ever in Indian Super League. They faced an uphill battle and Antonio Lopez Habas and his boys were ready for any challenge.

Bengaluru was the only team who was yet to get beaten but ATK Mohun Bagan took care of that as David Williams magnificent strike from the edge of the box gave ATK Mohun Bagan the lead in the 33rd minute. This is for the first time that the Australian scored in this season. Carl Mchugh deserves equal appreciation as the midfielder beautifully lobbed the ball from midfield to David and that led to the goal.

Bengaluru didn’t offer much in the first half as ATK Mohun Bagan controlled the pace of the game. They were clearly better and Bengaluru players were getting tired. ATK Mohun Bagan created a few chances from where there could’ve scored but Gurpreet Singh Sandhu denied all.

Bengaluru had all to play for in the second half but their players were just not able to deliver. Cuadrat had to make four substitutions within an hour as players were lagging behind. After the subs, Bengaluru relatively came back into the game but it was evenly poised. Both the teams were looking equal and whatever the chances they were creating either ended in the final third or in the hands of goal keepers.

Neither of the team created any solid chance in the 2nd half. Bengaluru were desperate to score a goal as they send Gurpreet up during a last minute corner but there was a huge difference between their planning and executing that.

ATK Mohun Bagan won 1-0 and won the ‘Indian Classico’. Bengaluru’s unbeaten run ended in the hands of Green and Meroon bridge. ATK Mohun Bagan now has 16 points from 7 games and are now sitting at the 2nd position and Bengaluru in the 3rd position with 12 points from 7 games.
