Xtra Time Web Desk: It was a mixed day for Australia as despite the ODI series winning 51 runs victory over India at the SCG as David Warner suffered a groin injury which can force him to miss out the  first test match at the Adelaide Oval starting next month from December 17. With less than three weeks to go for the first test, the swashbuckling opener will be struggling to get fit in time for the first test match.

The prolific opener was driven from the SCG for scans on Sunday night after emerging from a diving effort in the field. He needed to be helped from the field by teammate Glenn Maxwell and physio David Beakley.

Warner, who was involved in yet another important opening stand with Aaron Finch, was seen clutching his upper leg immediately after tumbling over in pursuit of the ball in the fourth over of India’s run chase. Such was his discomfort he took several minutes to leave the arena and needed assistance.

A Cricket Australia spokesman confirmed Warner had sustained an adductor injury and had been sent for scans, the results of which Australia will be sweating on.

“I haven’t heard anything or haven’t seen anything from Davey but hopefully the scan comes back and it’s OK. But it didn’t look good,” Maxwell said.

“He seemed liked he was in a bit of pain. Hopefully the scans come back and it’s not too bad and he can rest up and get himself right.”

Warner’s absence for the remaining four matches of the white-ball campaign against India over the next week in Canberra and then back in Sydney looms as a significant setback for the home team, breaking up his highly successful partnership with Finch.

However, the consequences could be felt even more if his involvement in the main event of the season, the four-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, is affected.
