Sabyasachi Bagchi: India’s wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik got a call from Indian national team for the upcoming World Cup after twelve years. Many cricket lovers were expected to see young Rishabh Pant as a backup wicket keeper but the selectors and the team management relied on experienced Dinesh.
Two former Indian wicket keepers Kiran More and Sayad Kirmani are delighted hearing the news. www.xtratime.in talked with Syed Kirmani over telephone. He said,“I am very happy to hear that Dinesh will be in the World Cup squad. I would also vote for him if I was in the selection committee. We need an experienced campaigner in the World Cup and it will definitely help us. DK is a better wicket-keeper and batsman than Rishabh Pant. Pant is young he got time. He should start his preparation for the next World Cup.”
Pant got the ability to score runs quickly in the pressured situations but India needs finisher like Karthik feels Kirmani. He said, “Yes Pant can score quickly in the pressured situation but it also has a negative impact. If he get out the team will be in trouble but Karthik has an ability to finish the game. He is a better keeper also. So I think it’s a good decision.”
Another former wicketkeeper Kiran More said,”He traveled with the team for last three years. Nidahas Trophy or Australia tour whenever he got the chance he did well for the national team and now he got the reward.”
“Karthik can play as a middle order batsman but it depends on the team management they will decide it but he is a match winner.” More added.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli said the performance in the IPL will not influence the World Cup team selection and Virat proved it by not giving chance to in form Rishabh Pant. Who scored o many runs in this year IPL.
