ISL 2024-25: Punjab FC defeats Odisha FC 2-1, secures back-to-back wins
Xtra Time Web Desk: Punjab FC continued its strong run in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season, defeating Odisha FC 2-1 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi, on Friday. This marked Punjab's second consecutive win, extending their unbeaten streak to eight games when scoring first, with six victories and two draws.
The home side, fielding the same starting XI as their previous match, opened the scoring in the 27th minute through a well-executed strike by 23-year-old Nihal Sudeesh. Leon Augustine sealed the victory with a late goal, while Odisha FC's struggles continued, suffering their second consecutive defeat under head coach Sergio Lobera.

Punjab FC dominated possession from the outset, with Nihal, Filip Mrzljak, Mushaga Bakenga, and Ezequiel Vidal creating multiple chances. Their pressure finally paid off in the 28th minute when Vidal made a swift run down the left flank, delivering a well-timed pass to Mrzljak. The Croatian midfielder's clever back-heel found Nihal, who outmaneuvered Amey Ranawade and calmly placed the ball into the far corner.
Leon Augustine added Punjab’s second goal in the 89th minute, capitalizing on a precise through-ball from Ricky Shabong. Augustine, who joined Punjab from Bengaluru FC this summer, coolly finished into the bottom left corner, celebrating with the home crowd.
