Xtra Time Web Desk: In the first Kolkata derby of the Indian Super League 2024-25 season, Mohun Bagan Super Giant delivered a commanding 3-0 victory over Mohammedan SC at the Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday, 5th October.

Mohammedan SC, playing their debut ISL season, struggled from the outset, conceding all three goals in a lackluster first half. While they showed slight improvement after the break, Mohun Bagan's control of the game remained unchallenged, and the scoreline stayed unchanged. The Mariners cruised to a comfortable win, while Mohammedan SC left the field with much to ponder ahead of their upcoming fixtures.

After suffering a 0-3 loss to Bengaluru FC in their previous match, Mohun Bagan Super Giant head coach Jose Molina faced mounting pressure to deliver. On a cloudy evening in Kolkata, the Mariners responded emphatically, securing a dominant 3-0 win over Mohammedan SC at the Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday.

Jamie Maclaren, Subhasish Bose, and Greg Stewart were the stars of the night, scoring within the first 30 minutes to seal an early victory. The win saw Mohun Bagan reverse their previous ISL result, returning to form in spectacular fashion.

Despite starting without a conventional No. 6, Mohun Bagan took an aggressive approach. Anirudh Thapa and Lalengmawia Ralte (Apuia) controlled the midfield, focusing on attack. The Mariners unleashed a barrage of 22 shots, 12 on target, while Mohammedan Sporting managed just nine, with only one posing a threat to goalkeeper Vishal Kaith, who had little to do during the match.

Maclaren, making his first ISL start for Mohun Bagan, set the tone early, forcing a save in the third minute. Moments later, Apuia also tested Mohammedan SC goalkeeper Padam Chhetri with a long-range effort. In the eighth minute, Maclaren finally broke the deadlock, finishing off a well-constructed move with an assist from Liston Colaco and Greg Stewart.

Stewart continued his impressive display, delivering a pinpoint corner for Subhasish Bose, who headed in Mohun Bagan's second goal at the 31st minute. The Scotsman added a third just before halftime, capping off a brilliant individual performance by slotting the ball into the bottom-left corner.

In the second half, Mohammedan SC introduced Cezar Manzoki to boost their attack, but Mohun Bagan’s defense held firm, offering no opportunities for a comeback.

With the victory, Mohun Bagan moved up to fourth in the standings with seven points from four games, while Mohammedan SC remained 10th with four points. Molina’s team now looks ahead to their heated clash with arch-rival East Bengal on October 19, while Mohammedan SC will face Kerala Blasters on October 20.
