Bengal have made a sensational start to their Ranji Trophy campaign, putting Delhi under tremendous pressure in their opening match. A big victory is now firmly within their sights. At the end of the third day's play, Delhi were 101 for 3 in their second innings, still trailing Bengal by 78 runs. Delhi had scored 240 in their first innings, before Bengal responded with a commanding total of 429.

Resuming the day at 304 for 3, Bengal's two overnight unbeaten batters, Sudip Gharami and Abhishek Porel, could not add much to their impressive partnership. Gharami was dismissed for 133, while Porel returned to the pavilion after scoring a magnificent 149.

Sumanta Gupta also made a valuable contribution with a half-century, scoring 50 runs. However, none of the other Bengal batters managed to produce a substantial score.

For Delhi, Ayush Badoni was the standout performer with the ball, claiming five wickets for 43 runs. Divij Mehra and Navdeep Saini picked up two wickets apiece.

Delhi began their second innings under pressure, with Bengal's pace attack once again making life difficult for the opposition batters.

Although Mohammed Shami is yet to take a wicket in the second innings, he has been exceptionally economical. The experienced pacer bowled eight overs, including three maidens, and conceded just eight runs.

Akash Deep claimed one wicket for 15 runs, while Mukesh Kumar picked up a wicket after conceding 12 runs. Pradipta Pramanik also chipped in with a wicket, giving away 20 runs.

With Delhi still trailing by 78 runs and seven wickets remaining, Bengal are in a commanding position. Their disciplined bowling and dominant batting display have put them firmly on course for a big victory in their Ranji Trophy opener.

East Bengal Pay the Price for Missed Chances, Suffer 3-2 Defeat Against Al Shorta

The reason behind Mohun Bagan’s defeat against NorthEast United in the ISL on Monday was exactly the same as the one that cost East Bengal dearly against Al Shorta in the AFC Champions League Two on Tuesday. While Mohun Bagan squandered numerous chances before conceding a late goal, East Bengal had enough opportunities to put the game beyond their opponents in the first half itself. David Lalhlansanga could have scored not just a hat-trick but as many as five goals. Yet, Habas’s men returned home with a painful 3-2 defeat.
