World Athletics Championships, Oregon 2022: Neeraj Chopra qualifies for Finals with first throw of 88.39m

Xtra Time Web Desk: As expected India’s golden boy Neeraj Chopra has qualified for the finals of Javelin throw competition at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon on Friday. The Tokyo Olympics gold medal winner hurled Javelin to 88.39M in his very first attempt to make it to the Finals. His colleague Rohit Yadav also has made it to the Finals. Earlier on Thursday, Annu Rani made it to the Finals of Women Javelin competition. The finals will take place on Sunday at 7:05 am IST.

If Neeraj Chopra wins a medal at the World Championships, he will be only the second Indian athlete to clinch a podium finish at the championships. Anju Bobby George earlier won a bronze in the women’s long jump at Paris in 2003.

Neeraj Chopra, who started his season only last month is having a golden run. He has broken the national record twice in three competitions this year. He threw a personal best of 89.94m at the Stockholm Diamond League. Earlier he had set the new-record at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland in his season-opener.
