Women’s Asia Cup 2022: Renuka Singh, Smriti Mandhana star as India beat Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in final

Xtra Time Web Desk: In one of the most lop-sided final India women team thrashed Sri Lanka women by 8 wickets to lift 7th Women’s Asia Cup title. Batting first Sri Lanka women were bundled out for a paltry 65 runs in 20 overs.

Pacer Renuka Singh Thakur was the wrecker in chief as she took 3 wickets giving away just 5 runs in 3 overs. Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Sneh Rana got two wickets each.

Chasing 66 runs to win, Indian openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma gave the team a brisk start, putting 32 runs in 3.3 overs. Shafali Verma did not get going as she was stumped for 5 runs. Jemima Rodrigues too did not last long as she was bowled by Kavisha Dilhari for 2 runs.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur (11* from 14 balls) and Smriti Mandhana (51 * off 25 balls) ensured there were no further hiccups as they guided the team home.

Earlier, fiery power-play spell from pacer Renuka Singh and top-notch performance by spinners Sneh Rana and Rajeshwari Gayakwad helped India restrict Sri Lanka to 65/9 in their 20 overs.
