Will IPL 2023 season be the last for Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni?

Xtra Time Web Desk: In all probability the upcoming IPL 2023 season will be the last for MS Dhoni after which he might hang up his boots. The talismanic CSK captain has already made his intentions clear that he would like to bid farewell in front of the Yellow Army in Chepauk.

While Dhoni has not officially informed Chennai Super Kings management about his decision yet but it is believed the upcoming edition will be his last. The CSK management expects Dhoni to officially inform about his decision ahead of the start of IPL.

Speculation about Dhoni’s future has been rife for some time now. England test captain Ben Stokes can be a potential candidate to lead the franchise after Dhoni relinquish his post. Team India cricketers Ajinkya Rahane and Ruturaj Gaikwad are also in the reckoning.

Stokes is unlikely to be available for full duration of IPL every season with his national team commitments. Hence, CSK might look at an Indian option that Stokes and Dhoni can groom for the future. In that case Ajinkya Rahane and Ruturaj Gaikwad could be the potential candidates. Both Rahane and Ruturaj has led their state sides with the former also leading India test side in the famous test series win against Australia in 2020.
