Why was Mohammed Shami left out of India’s squad for T20 World Cup 2022?

Xtra Time Web Desk: Mohammed Shami was not included in India’s squad for upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 because the team management wanted to have a variety in spin attack. It is learnt both captain Rohit Sharma and Head Coach Rahul Dravid were of the view that the wickets in Australia will aid spin during the summer.

According to reports, it was a toss-up between Mohammed Shami and Ravichandran Ashwin with the experienced off spinner getting selectors nod. Besides adding variety, Ashwin was preferred for his experience of bowling on pitches Down Under.

The team management was of the view, that few sides are loaded with lefthanders. They felt more than Shami’s pace, Ashwin would be useful in curtailing their big-hitting ways. Another factor was the big ground in Australia where clearing the boundaries against spinners will be difficult.

The selection committee led by Chetan Sharma picked a 4-member pace attack comprising of Jasprit Bumrah, Harshal Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh. Hardik Pandya will support the four-man pace battery.
