Why MS Dhoni might not continue playing in IPL next season?

Xtra Time Web Desk: Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni has kept his retirement plans on hold. The talisman on Tuesday said he has 8-9 months to decide whether he will be back in the IPL next season or not. Dhoni led CSK to 10th IPL final after his side beat defending champions Gujarat Titans by 15 runs in IPL 2023 Qualifier 1 at the Chepauk.

Following the win Dhoni during his interaction with the host broadcasters said he do not want to take headaches right now about his future in IPL. He will take a final call in the next 8-9 months ahead of IPL mini-auction. The wicketkeeper batter also made it clear he will always be associated with the CSK franchise, be it as a player or as a support staff.

It looks more and more difficult for the 41-year-old Dhoni to continue playing as he has a troubled knee which has taken its toll. He was seen with a heavy strapping on his left knee during the practice session on Monday. Dhoni himself admitted that it is getting difficult for him to manage his knee, considering the rigours of a two-month league. He was seen shaking hands with the groundsman after the Qualifier. The inspirational CSK skipper had also taken a lap of honour after his team’s last home game against KKR.

A senior TNCA official who do not wish to be quoted feels if CSK goes on to win the IPL 2023 title, then Dhoni will hang up his boots as he would love to go out on a high. He has created a legacy which will difficult to match.

Whether it will be Dhoni’s last dance at the Narendra Modi Stadium, fans will have to wait till November.
