Xtra Time Web Desk: What was the main reason behind Ravindra Jadeja relinquishing the Chennai Super Kings captaincy in the middle of the season and why did he take it over again? MS Dhoni revealed it all after leading CSK to 13 runs win over Sunrisers Hyderabad at MCA stadium in Pune on Sunday night.

Ravindra Jadeja decided to leave the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings couple of days back citing the burden of leading the side was affecting his preparations and performance. The CSK management handed back the captaincy to Dhoni with an eye to make it to the Playoffs of the ongoing season.

Dhoni has been very supportive towards Jadeja since he was given over the CSK captaincy. He was seen guiding Jadeja on the field in the first couple of matches as he was new to the role.

“I think Jadeja knew last season that he would be captaining this year. For the first two games, I simply oversaw his work and let him be later. After that, I insisted that he take his own decisions and bear responsibility for them,” said Dhoni during the post-match presentation.

Talking about the transition, the talisman said, “It was a gradual transition. Spoon-feeding doesn’t really help the captain; on the field you have to take those crucial decisions and you have to take responsibility for those decisions. Once you become the captain, we have to take care of many things and that also includes your own game.”

Dhoni hoped that with Jadeja freed from the pressures of captaincy, it would reignite the allrounder’s form on the field.
