What is the latest update on Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar’s fitness test? | T20 World Cup 2022

Xtra Time Web Desk: In all likelihood Team India pacer Mohammed Shami will be travelling along with Shreyas Iyer to Australia on October 12 or 13 for the T20 World Cup 2022. The duo will join the Indian squad in Perth.

Shami is now at the National Cricket Academy undergoing rehab to regain full match-fitness. He has recovered after testing positive for Covid 19. He will undergo the mandatory cardiovascular test in next couple of days.

As per reports, Deepak Chahar may not undergo fitness test in next couple of days. He has been advised rest by BCCI medical team. It is not clear if Chahar will travel with Shreyas and Shami to Australia on the same flight.

Mohammed Siraj, looked impressive in the second ODI against Proteas. Siraj bowled at full tilt and looked in rhythm. He picked 3 wickets giving away only 38 runs and was easily the pick of the Indian bowlers in Ranchi.

Mohammed Shami is definitely the frontrunner to replace Jasprit Bumrah, provided he clears fitness test on Sunday. Both Shami, Chahar are the standbys along with Shreyas Iyer, who is currently playing the ODI series against South Africa.

As of now Shami, if he clears the fitness test is definitely the frontrunner, followed by Mohammed Siraj. Deepak Chahar with the back injury has definitely taken a back seat.

As per the ICC Guidelines, Sunday (October 9) was the last day for making changes in the squad. It looks like selectors will decide on Bumrah’s replacement before October 15 which is the final deadline by ICC to name the replacements.
