“We respect Pakistan as a team”: Ravichandran Ashwin ahead of marquee clash at MCG on October 23 | T20 World Cup 2022

Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India senior off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Monday said the entire team is confident of putting up a good show in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Talking about India’s tournament opener against Pakistan at MCG on October 23, Ashwin said it will be close contest.

“In this format, margins are gonna be close. We respect Pakistan as a team and so do they,” said Ashwin in a press conference after India’s practice match against Western Australia XI at WACA on Monday.

He further added, “It is a game of cricket. We do not play them (Pakistan) a lot. This rivalry is big and means a lot to people from both nations. But wins and losses are part of the game.”

The Indian team have been undergoing a preparatory camp in Perth where they will play two practice games against Western Australia XI.  In the first practice match played on Monday, the Indian team defeated Western Australia XI by 13 runs. For India Suryakumar Yadav was the top-scorer with 52 from 35 balls. Arshdeep Singh took 3/6.

According to Ashwin, “By the time the first game of the tournament comes, you have to be completely sure about the conditions.”
