XtraTime Web Desk: India’s run machine Virat Kohli went past former India skipper Sourav Ganguly to become India’s second highest run-getter in ODIs. The India skipper has achieved this feat during the ongoing second ODI against West Indies at the Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad on Sunday.

The 30-year-old is now only behind legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who has an astounding 18,426 runs to his name in the 50-over format.

Kohli surpassed Ganguly's record in his 238th game while Ganguly took 311 ODIs to score 11,363 runs.

Kohli achieved the coveted mark in the 32nd over of the game when he hit Jason Holder for a third-man boundary after India opted to bat first.

Kohli went on to score his 42nd ODI ton off 112 balls. Carlos Brathwaite dismissed the Indian skipper at the score of 120 in the 42nd over.

Soon after Kohli broke his record, Ganguly hailed the Delhi batsman and tweeted: "Virat kohli another master class in one day cricket @imVkohli @BCCI .. what a player."

Earlier in the day, the Indian skipper also became the leading run-scorer against West Indies in ODI cricket, breaking a 26-year-old record of former Pakistan batsman Javed Miandad.

Kohli reached the landmark when he scored the 19th run, taking a single towards deep backward point in the fifth over of the match.

Miandad took 64 innings to score 1930 runs against the West Indies but Kohli went past him in just 34 innings.
