Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia and wrestlers seek IOA intervention as WFI President refuses to quit

Xtra Time Web Desk: The ongoing protest by Indian wrestlers against WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan entered its third day with no solutions being reached. The wrestlers wrote a letter to Indian Olympic Association requesting to intervene into the matter earlier in the day. The letter was signed by five wrestlers representing the wrestling fraternity. It included Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia, Deepak Punia and Ravi Dahiya.

The IOA has called for an executive council meeting on Friday at 5:45 pm.  The wrestlers also met the Sports Minister Anurag Thakur at his residence on Thursday night. The meeting went on till 12:30 am without any solutions being reached. None of the wrestlers opening their mouth in front of media.

The country’s top grapplers have also threatened to lodge a police complaint against Brij Bhushan Singh if he doesn’t resign. Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has also called for an Emergency Executive Meeting in Ayodhya. It is learnt the WFI too is going to initiate action against the protesting wrestlers.

The development comes hours after Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur met the protesting wrestlers at his Delhi home. The Olympic wrestlers, protesting at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, demanded the WFI chief’s resignation and also wanted that the federation be disbanded.
