Vijay Hazare Trophy: Prithvi Shaw joins an elite list, hits a record double ton in List A cricket

Xtra Time Web Desk: India and Mumbai batsman Prithvi Shaw on Thursday registered a rare feat as the youngster scored his maiden List A double hundred in a Vijay Hazare Trophy group stage clash against Puducherry. Prithvi powered his way to a stroke filled 227 runs off 152 balls which is also the highest individual score in Vijay Hazare Trophy. Shaw’s knock was studded with 27 boundaries and four sixes.  

The Mumbai captain is the fourth batsman to score a double-century in the history of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He is overall the eighth Indian to score a List A double-hundred. Shaw who remained unbeaten on 227 (152 balls), registered the highest score by a captain in men’s List A cricket.

Shaw, who was not been named in the Indian squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against England gave a strong message to the selectors. Let us see the Indian batsmen who have scored a double hundred in List A cricket:

Sachin Tendulkar: The first-ever batsman to score a double-century in ODIs, Sachin Tendulkar achieved the milestone against South Africa in February 2010. The master blaster scored 200* off 147.

Virender Sehwag: The second batsman to breach the 200-run mark at the highest level. The Nawab of Nazafgarh scored  a 219-run knock off 149 balls against West Indies in December 2011.

Shikhar Dhawan: Shikhar Dhawan scored 248 off 150 balls against South Africa in the 6th match of the tri-series against a bowling attack consisting of players like Hardus Viljoen, Beuran Hendricks, Dane Piedt and others. Dhawan’s knock included 30 four and 7 sixes.

Rohit Sharma: Not once or twice, Rohit Sharma has breached the 200-run mark thrice in ODIs. Two years after Sehwag, Rohit joined him and Sachin on the list when he scored his maiden double-century against Australia. A year later, he smashed 264 against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens. And 3 years later, Rohit once again hit a double-century – against Sri Lanka. 

Sanju Samson: The cricketer from Kerala scored 212 off just 129 balls in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019/20 season., Sanju Samson pressed a case for selection and earned a recall in the T20I side after 4 years. He hit 21 fours and 10 sixes during the course of his knock.

Yashasvi Jaiswal: The youngest batsman to hit a double-century in Vijay Hazare Trophy, Yashasvi Jaiswal had joined the elite list just a few days after Samson. Opening the innings for Mumbai, Jaiswal scored 203 off 154.

Karan Kaushal: The first-ever batsman to score a double-century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Karan Kaushal hit 202 off just 135 against balls against Sikkim in the 2018/219 season. He smashed  18 fours and 9 sixes at 149.63.
