Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022: Ruturaj Gaikwad sets world record; smashes six sixes in an over in Quarter Final against UP

Xtra Time Web Desk: Maharashtra batter Ruturaj Gaikwad set a world record as he smashed six sixes in an over in the quarter final against Uttar Pradesh on Monday. Uttar Pradesh pacer Shiva Singh was the bowler as he saw the Chennai Super Kings batter launching into him for six over boundaries. Worst, he even bowled a no-ball under pressure, and the free hit too went for a huge six.

He has become the first player in the history of limited-overs cricket to hit seven sixes in an over. The record for most sixes in an over (overall) though remains with Lee Germon of New Zealand who struck eight of those during a mind-boggling turn of events in Wellington’s Shell Trophy match.

It was an absolute carnage as Ruturaj ended up scoring 220* from only 159 balls. His knock included 10 hits to the fence and 16 over boundaries. In fact, out of those 16 sixes, the last nine came off in last 12 balls.

On the basis of his innings, Maharashtra scored 330 runs for five wickets in 50 overs.
