Umran Malik has a bright future for India provided he stays fit: Sourav Ganguly

Xtra Time Web Desk: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly on Tuesday said Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Umran Malik has a bright future for India if he stays fit. The pacer from Jammu is the new face along with Punjab speedster Arshdeep Singh in the Indian T20 squad for the upcoming five match series against South Africa at home.

“If he (Umran Malik) stays fit he has a bright future”, said Sourav on the side-lines of an event in Kolkata.

The ongoing season has seen the emergence of several uncapped players like Tilak Varma, Umran Malik, Mohsin Khan, Arshdeep Singh and others.

According to Sourav, “Lot of players have played well. Tilak Varma, Rahul Tripathi, Rahul Tewatia have been impressive.  As far as fast bowlers are concerned Umran (Malik), Mohsin (Khan), Arshdeep(Singh) ,Prasidh (Krishna) have all impressed. Bumrah (Jasprit) we all know is an established player.”

He went on to add, “IPL is a platform where talent gets exposure.  We are fortunate we have so much talent in this country”

India captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli has struggled to score big runs. While Rohit has failed to notch up a single half century in the ongoing season, Kohli showed signs of coming back to form with a 54 ball 73 runs against Gujarat Titans.

“They are great players. They have been playing so much cricket and during the course of a long career, off form does happen. Only matter of time they will bounce back,” said Sourav.

Recently Rishabh Pant has been criticized heavily for the use of Decision Review Systems. Former India captain MS Dhoni has been a master when it comes to DRS. On being asked about Pant making so many errors with DRS and his comparison with Dhoni, Sourav said, “We should not compare between Dhoni and Pant. Dhoni as captain played close to 500 matches. It’s not fair to compare him with Dhoni.”
