Umesh, Ashwin pick 4 wickets each as Bangladesh bowled out for 227 runs on Day 1 of second test | BANvIND

Xtra Time Web Desk: India are in a strong position after the first day’s play in the second test against Bangladesh at the Sher e Bangla stadium on Thursday. After bowling out Bangladesh for 227 runs, the visitors are 19/0 with captain KL Rahul not out on 3 and Shubman Gill batting on 14 runs.

Umesh Yadav (4/25) and Ravichandran Ashwin (4/71) were the pick of the Indian bowlers as the hosts were bowled out for 227 runs in 73.5 overs.

Former Bangladesh test captain Mominul Haque, making a comeback scored a brilliant 84 runs. He was dropped after a string of poor performances in recent tests. Mominul’s 157 ball knock was studded with 12 fours and a six.

The hosts lost their last 5 wickets for just 14 runs. Most of the Bangladesh batters got a start but failed to convert into a big score.

For India, left arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat made a test comeback after 12 years. He last played a test for India back in 2010-11 during the tour to South Africa. Unadkat justified his selection as he gave India the first breakthrough, picking last test centurion Zakir Hasan. He also picked the wicket of Mushfiqur Rahim. His figures read 16-2-50-2.

Unadkat replaced Kuldeep Yadav, who was the Man of the Match in first test at Chittagong. Kuldeep picked 8 wickets in the match and also scored a crucial knock of 40 runs in the first innings.

Bangladesh has made two changes with Yasir Ali making way for Mominul Haque and Taskin Ahmed coming in place of injured Ebadot Hossain.

Scores:

Bangladesh 227 all out    Mominul Haque 84(157)   Umesh Yadav 4/25 & Ravichandran Ashwin 4/71
