Internet Desk: Real Madrid won the UEFA Champions League for the record twelfth time as they beat Italian powerhouse Juventus 4-1 in the final at Cardiff on Saturday. Ronaldo scored twice to help his side winning the title for second successive time. But the referring is under the scanner after referee showed a red card to Juan Cuadrado during the final.

On 83rd minute of the game Real Madrid skipper Sergio Ramos took quite a bit of flak for an incident involving Juan Cuadrado. Ramos acted like he was hit by Cuadrado and went outside the sideline. The referee thought that Cuadrado has fouled Ramos and showed him a second yellow card to send the Juventus player off the field with a red card.

It has become a trend in European football that, if the Spanish giants like Real Madrid and Barcelona make it to the finals the clubs get the backing of the referees. In last year’s UEFA Champions League final Real Madrid got the backing of the referee against their rival Atletico de Madrid too.

After the incident of Ramos, the commentator of the match it ‘is one of the worst things I have ever seen on a football pitch.’

Adding to the debate, BT Sport’s football pundits were asked for their views on the subject, with former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand proclaiming he would be ’embarrassed’ to go down the route Ramos did in that situation.

“He’ll be embarrassed after. If my son watched me do that I’d be embarrassed to look my son in the eye.”
