Kolkata: East Bengal U-18 won their second U-18 I-league match at the East Bengal ground as they won 1-0 against Tata Football Academy. The Red-Golden side continued their winning run as they take on Shillong Lajong in their next match. The lone goal was scored by Khangembam Bidyashagar Singh.

At the third minute of the match Bidyashagar Singh got a brilliant chance to score but he hit the ball straight at the opponent goalkeeper.

TFA’s Defender Harsh Parui took a long ranger shot which was saved brilliantly by the East Bengal goalie.

However just a minute later, the  jersey no 24 Bidyashagar single handedly reached the opponent box with a lone run at the right wing and then passed the ball to his fellow forward who missed the goal scoring opportunity.

Five minutes later, TFA’s forward Md. Firoz Khan’s shot was again brilliantly saved by East Bengal goalie Sovon Biswas.

At the stroke of 35th minute, the breakthrough came for East Bengal when Prakash Sarakar who dribbled past two players in the midfield and passed it to Khangembam Bidyashagar Singh who put the ball at the back of the net in spite of being hassled by a TFA defender. However the best opportunity of the game came to Prakash Naik who after a defensive error from the East Bengal went 1 on 1 with the goalie but failed to score for TFA after shooting the ball wide. The first half came to an end after 4 additional minutes.

Ten minutes in the second half and a yellow card is awarded to EB’s Yami Longvah. Skipper Lalcchanhima tried his luck from a distance but it went wide. The second half was filled with less action and it came to an end after 5 additional minutes.

“No doubt we won, but we are didn’t play well. I am not happy with the win. The ball possession was weak and we will have to rectify that” said East Bengal manager Ranjan Chowdhury.

“This was my first goal for the club and I would like to perform like this manner in the upcoming matches” said the scorer of today’s game Khangembam Bidyashagar Singh.

East Bengal paid homage to their veteran defender Shanto Mitra who passed away earlier this morning.

Two minutes of silence was observed before the start of the game.
