Two senior players in Team India discussed Kohli’s captaincy after WTC Final with BCCI secretary: Report

Xtra Time Web Desk: Virat Kohli has recently announced he will step down from India’s T20 captaincy after the T20 World Cup starting next month. Kohli decided to focus more on his batting. He will continue to lead India in ODIs and tests.

But the fact is Kohli could have been removed from T20 captaincy after the T20 World Cup. Even Kohli could have seen the writings on the wall.

There were reports of Team India senior off spinner complaining to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah against Virat Kohli. The names of two senior batters in Indian team have emerged making similar calls to the board secretary. The two players in question are supposedly Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara.

Both Indian test team vice captain Ajinkya Rahane and dependable batsman Cheteshwar Pujara were criticized for their performances with the bat in World Test Championship Final against New Zealand. Pujara scored only 8 and 15 runs in both innings while Rahane scored 49 in the first innings and added 15 off 40 balls in the second.

“The mindset has to be to score runs and find ways to score runs. You can’t be too worried about getting out because you are [then] bringing the bowler into the game completely,” Virat Kohli had asserted in the post-match presentation.

As per a report in the New Indian Express, Rahane and Pujara had approached Shah to discuss Kohli’s captaincy after the WTC final. It was after this the BCCI top hierarchy decided to take feedback from the other players in the team. It is now being speculated that the Indian captain’s decision to step down as India’s T20 skipper might be connected to this.
