Barasat: Kingfisher East Bengal registered a remarkable victory against Bengaluru FC at the Barasat Stadium today by 2-1. But the mutual grief between Wedson Anselme and Willis Plaza has caught the eyes of everyone. Plaza himself missed a number of opportunities to score and every time when either of them was getting the ball, was reluctant to pass it to the other. Their disgustion against each other was vivid in their facial expressions too. Wedson was having trouble with a few of his other teammates as well. In the post match press conference, when the question was asked to the East Bengal gaffer Trevor Morgan, he avoided the issue by saying, "I have been listening several criticisms like these from several pundits. I never paid any attention to it. I hope today's performance from my team will help me to stay away from any criticism for the next four days."
The AFC Cup finalists lost this game for the first time since the AFC Cup final and condceded goals for the first time in this Hero I-League, literally surrendered themselves in front of the home team in the second half. Trevor explained, "Credit should go to my players. Bengaluru is a very good side and it was never easy to play like this. But my boys worked really hard in the second half. In fact, I believe in the second half the team has worked the hardest in the last one year. I changed the formation a bit but you need your players to respond to it, which they did."
The gaffer hailed the performance of Robin Singh but added, "Robin did really well. Scored the all important goal. Moved well, mobilized our attacks. But I felt bad for Haokip. He scored a goal in Goa in the last game but bringing Robin was a plan. It is one of those things where you have a point to prove against your former team. It worked today."
Hero of the Match, Ugandan defender Ivan Bukenye has now been the highest goal scorer this season for the Red and Gold brigade and said, "I want to keep scoring goals like these to help my side winning the title." The giant defender not only scored the equalizing goal for his side, but also shielded the defense like a rock to secure the three points.
