This former Mohun Bagan defender shares emotional message, bids goodbye to his fans

Fran Gonzalez has bid goodbye to Mohun Bagan on Sunday.

Xtra Time Web Desk: On a day when Mohun Bagan fans celebrated the handover of I league trophy, a man who was pivotal for the Mariners winning the league last season bid an emotional farewell to his fans. Spanish defender Fran Gonzalez has bid goodbye to Mohun Bagan (now ATK Mohun Bagan) and has thanked the green and maroon supporters. In an emotional post shared on his social media handles, ‘The Boss’ thanked the love he received from the Mariners fans.

The Spanish footballer wrote:

The 31-year-old Spaniard played a huge role in Kibu Vicuna’s team which won the I League 2019-20 season. The defender started all 16 matches for the Mariners and recorded an incredible tally of 10 goals last season.

Gonzalez had earlier shared his resentment over contractual issues which remained unresolved after Mohun Bagan joined hands with ATK to form a new entity ATK Mohun Bagan which will play in the Indian Super League (ISL 2020-21). He had alleged that in spite of having a year remaining in his contract there has been no communication from the club about the beginning of training sessions for the new season. Even several enquiries by his lawyer have gone unanswered. The player who arrived in India from Hong Kong first division club Warriors was unable to come to a new agreement and has decided to bid goodbye.
