The Hundred: ECB facing a setback as question mark on the participation of star Australian trio

Xtra Time Web Desk: The much hyped venture of England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), The Hundred is facing an early setback as the Australian star trio of David Warner, Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell are likely to pull out of the inaugural edition. The reasons believed for their likely withdrawal is the mandatory travel restrictions of the Australian Government. Anyone entering Australia will have to undergo a mandatory 14 day quarantine period which might affect their participation in packed international cricket calendar.

Earlier West Indies stars Andre Russell and Nicholas Pooran opted to pull themselves out of The Hundred. However, there is still hope for David Warner as Cricket Australia is mulling to rest him for the West Indies tour. If he does get rested, he could be available to play in the tournament before joining the Aussie squad back for the Bangladesh series.

The Australian cricketers were supposed to join their respective The Hundred franchises after their white ball series against West Indies ends on July 24. But with Cricket Australia set to travel to Bangladesh for a limited over series (dates still not confirmed yet), it is likely that many Australian stars including David Warner, Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell might opt out of The Hundred.

The Australian players in The Hundred are David Warner and Marcus Stoinis (Southern Brave), Adam Zampa (Birmingham Phoenix), Glenn Maxwell (London Spirit), Aaron Finch (Northern Superchargers), Jhye Richardson (Welsh Fire) and D’Arcy Short (Trent Rockets).

The Hundred is set to begin on July 21.
