The Hundred 2021 : Shafali Verma fifth Indian woman cricketer selected to play in the tournament

Young Indian attacking opening batsman Shafali Verna first burst onto the scene in the ICC women’s T-20 world cup played in Australia. Her attacking instinctive play put the limelight on her. At such young age her way of batting reminded us of another Ex-Indian opening attacking batsman Virender Sehwag.

Shafali Verma young Indian women’s cricketer set to become the fifth player from national team to play in the inaugural edition of The Hundred in England. She would join Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, vice captain Smriti Mandhana, all-rounder Deepti Sharma and batswoman Jemimah Rodrigues. Incidentally,Verma, is the no. 1 ranked player in the ICC Women’s T20I batting rankings.

According to the news received she has signed up for the Birmingham Phoenix. Her team will be led by New Zealander Sophie Devine. The 17-year-old player from Haryana made her debut in T20I format in 2019. So far,she has played in 22 T20Is. She has scored 617 runs at an average of 29.38 and a strike rate of 148.31.

She has received a No Objection Certification (NOC) from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Indian women’s team to tour England in June-July 2021.
Incidentally Harmanpreet Kaur, Deepti Sharma, Smriti Mandhana, and Jemimah Rodrigues previously played in the now-defunct Women’s Cricket Super League in England. The tournament was replaced by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) with a new format – The Hundred.

Harmanpreet will play for the Manchester Originals, Mandhana for Southern Brave, Rodrigues named in Northern Supercharge and Deepti Sharma has been signed by London Spirit. The Hundred tournament for both men and women will happen simultaneously starting on July 21.
