Xtra Time Web Desk: In a dramatic semi-final clash between India and England at the ICC T20 World Cup, former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri raised eyebrows with his critique of Virat Kohli's batting strategy during the powerplay. Kohli, who has a history of delivering under pressure in knockout rounds, faced an unexpected setback as he recorded his first-ever single-digit score in a semi-final at the ICC event.

The turning point came in the second over of the Indian innings when pacer Reece Topley dismissed Kohli after the Indian opener had already hit a six off him. This early exit sparked a notable reaction from Shastri, who expressed his disapproval of Kohli's ultra-aggressive approach, especially given the situation and team dynamics at play.

With skipper Rohit Sharma pushing the tempo from one end, Shastri believed Kohli should have taken a more conservative role to anchor the innings at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. Speaking to Star Sports, Shastri remarked, "This is not his game. He is going too early for it, especially with Rohit Sharma playing aggressively at the other end. He can make up quite easily once he spends a little more time at the crease. He is more orthodox. And he is going to play in that fashion. When he tries to get out of his zone, he will get out in that fashion."

Shastri’s comments reflect a concern that Kohli, known for his orthodox and technically sound batting style, may have strayed from his strengths in an attempt to match the aggressive pace set by Sharma. This perspective suggests a need for balance and role clarity within the batting lineup, particularly in high-stakes matches like the World Cup semi-final.
