Xtra Time Web Desk: Two Bengalis have achieved a significant feat in mountaineering. Their names are Shuvendu Mondal and Jyotirmoy Maiti. They successfully climbed an unnamed peak in the Lahaul-Spiti region of Himachal Pradesh, which stands at 6,023 meters (according to topo sheet measurements). This peak had remained unconquered by mountaineers worldwide until now. On August 15 at 9:32 AM, they reached the summit, adding a new feather to the cap of Bengali mountaineering.

On August 4, team leader Shuvendu Mondal set out from Kolkata towards Manali, Himachal Pradesh. After reaching Manali on August 6, they gathered all necessary equipment and proceeded towards the base camp. They were joined there by Varun Ghoshal, Jyotirmoy Maiti, and Naresh Bhai from Manali.

Opening the route to Camp One was extremely challenging, requiring them to fix over 300 feet of rope. To reach the summit from Camp One or the summit camp, the team had to fix ropes along a nearly 900-foot ice wall.
