Team India emerging spinner climbs to No 1 spot in latest ICC T20I player rankings

Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India emerging leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi has been rewarded for his excellent performances since making his debut last year. The 23-year-old has climbed to the No 1 spot in latest ICC T20I player rankings. Despite making his international debut just last year, the 23-year-old has demonstrated consistent excellence, climbing four spots to claim the premier bowling position.

Bishnoi’s stellar performance earned him the Player of the Series title in India’s triumphant 4-1 T20I series against Australia on home soil. Since his debut against the West Indies in February 2022, he has amassed an impressive total of 34 wickets from 21 T20I matches.

His journey to the top was foreshadowed by his standout performance in the ICC Men’s Under 19 Cricket World Cup in 2020, where he finished as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 17 wickets, contributing to India’s runner-up finish behind Bangladesh.

Despite facing competition from established spinners like Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Ravichandran Ashwin in India’s formidable lineup, Bishnoi consistently excelled when given the opportunity. His commendable economy rate of 7.14 is among the best in the current crop of Indian bowlers.

Bishnoi’s ascent to the top has caused shifts in the rankings, with Rashid Khan, Adil Rashid, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Maheesh Theekshana dropping one spot each in the top 10. Meanwhile, another Indian spinner, Axar Patel, has surged 16 places to claim the 11th position.

In the ODI rankings, India’s opener Shubman Gill (batting) and South Africa’s spinner Keshav Maharaj (bowling) maintain their positions at the top.
