Internet Desk: Proteas leg-spinner Imran Tahir has been reprimanded for showing Junaid Jamshed’s jersey on his t-shirt on the second T-20 International against Sri Lanka in Johannesburg on Sunday.

According to an ICC press release, Imran Tahir’s act breached section G1 of the ICC clothing and equipment rules and regulations.

“Players and team officials shall not be permitted to wear, display or otherwise convey messages through arm bands or other items affixed to clothing or equipment (“Personal Messages”) unless approved in advance by both the player or team official’s Board and the ICC Cricket Operations Department. Approval shall not be granted for messages which relate to political, religious or racial activities or causes”the release said.

The ICC statement adds that Tahir admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by the ICC and, as such, there was no need for a formal adjudication.

It has been learnt that Imran Tahir paid tribute to the late religious preacher without seeking prior approval from the South African board as well as the ICC.

Junaid Jamshed and his wife Nayha along with 41 passengers were killed when a Pakistan International Airlines aircraft crashed near Havelian on 7th December, 2016.

According to reports, Proteas cricketers Imran Tahir and Hashim Amla were close friends with Junaid Jamshed. They came closer to each other when Jamshed used to visit the country a lot.
