Xtra Time Web Desk: IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad has named Proteas batter Aiden Markram as their new captain for the upcoming IPL 2023 season. Markram replaces Kane Williamson, who was released by the franchise ahead of IPL 2023 auction. The 29-year-old cricketer has recently led Sunrisers Eastern to be crowned as champions in the inaugural SA 20. The franchise made the announcement on their social media handles.
There were quite a few contenders for the captaincy role with Mayank Agarwal also being in the scheme of things. However, Markram was selected as the leader of the Hyderabad franchise ahead of IPL 2023.
Markram has scored 381 runs in 14 matches for SRH last season at an average of 47.63. Playing for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape side, the South African batter scored a hundred in the semi-final against the Jo’burg SuperKings to help them reach the final where they defeated the Pretoria Capitals to win the SA 20 title.
