Internet Desk: Narayanswamy Srinivasan is still calling the shots in BCCI, as the former board supremo backed Tamil Nadu Cricket Association has forced the postponement of the Special General Meeting in Delhi today. The TNCA has objected saying that the BCCI cannot convene a SGM without the required 10-day notice, a general body is in contravention of the BCCI rules and “violation” of the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act 1975. Saurashtra, Kerala, Goa, Karnataka and Haryana, too, wrote to the BCCI disapproving the proposed SGM.

Accordingly, the acting president CK Khanna has directed acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary to recall the July 11 Special General Meeting (SGM) notification and reschedule the meeting with the stipulated 10-day notice.

Some state association members wanted to go ahead with the SGM in the capital as it was the final opportunity for them to discuss on the Lodha Panel recommendations. The main points to deliberate and decide were on four ‘critical’points (one state-one vote, three-member selection committee, cooling off period for office-bearers and powers given to the function of professionals) in the Lodha panel recommendations that the cricket board’s special committee expressed strong reservations against.

Acting BCCI president postponed the SGM, citing that at least 10 days notice had to be issued to the members. This is not the first occasion that a SGM had to postpone due to a shorter notice. Earlier in 2002 during the time of late BCCI President Jagmohan Dalmiya, an SGM was called off as it was called on a shorter notice. Similarly when Anurag Thakur had called a meeting with a shorter notice, the house condoned it unanimously.
